Sony Launches Two Premium Home Cinema Laser Projectors with 4K/120 Gaming Support
Sony has unveiled two new high-performance home cinema laser projectors that are set to elevate both picture quality and gaming performance. These projectors, the Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES) and Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES), are designed
to offer an immersive cinematic experience while catering to next-gen gaming needs.
Both projectors feature laser lighting technology that guarantees up to 20,000 hours of continuous use, along with Sony's proprietary SXRD optics, providing a true 4K resolution from a compact 0.61-inch imaging chip. These projectors also support HDR10 and HLG formats, ensuring a dynamic viewing experience with enhanced color accuracy and contrast.
Key Features
- HDMI 2.1 Support: Both projectors come equipped with full HDMI 2.1 support, enabling users to enjoy 4K gaming at 120Hz from devices like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and high-performance PCs. This makes them an excellent choice for gamers who prioritize ultra-smooth gameplay.
- XR Dynamic Tone Mapping: Sony introduces XR Dynamic Tone Mapping for the first time in its projectors. This feature optimizes brightness and shadow details by adjusting the tone mapping for every frame, resulting in more vibrant colors and deeper blacks.
- XR Deep Black Technology: The XR Processor adjusts the laser output during darker scenes, improving black levels while maintaining brightness in lighter parts of the screen. Sony claims this improves color saturation and detail in shadowy scenes, leading to a more immersive viewing experience.
- XR Triluminos Pro: With more than a billion colors, this system covers 95% of the DCI-P3 HDR color gamut, delivering a wide range of colors for more lifelike images.
- Advanced Installation Features: These projectors also bring new installation enhancements like gamma correction for HDR, keystone correction, and picture position memory slots, making it easier to install and adjust the projector to various screen setups.
Differences Between the Models
- Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100ES): With a brightness level of 3,400 lumens, this model is capable of delivering up to 210 nits on a 150-inch screen or 330 nits on a 120-inch screen.
- Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES): Offers 2,700 lumens of brightness, making it slightly less powerful but still capable of providing a remarkable visual experience.
