Security researcher Konstantin highlighted this flaw on the social networking site Mastodon, explaining how easily it can disrupt the iPhone's user interface. "Apparently, you can crash your iPhone Springboard pretty easily," Konstantin wrote.

To trigger the bug, users need to swipe left on their iPhone past all their Home Screen pages until they reach the App Library. Once there, if they search for the sequence (to see full code please signup free) in the search bar, it will cause the Springboard—the part of iOS that manages the home screen—to crash and restart, returning the user to the Lock Screen. In some instances, the screen may flash black before reloading.

This bug is not limited to the App Library. It can also be triggered by typing the same characters into the Search bar within the Settings app. The crash occurs instantly, disrupting the device's normal functionality.

The only way to activate this bug is by manually typing the specific sequence on the device, meaning it doesn't pose a security threat but rather a significant annoyance. Users who accidentally type these characters may find their device unexpectedly crashing.
