GAO Report on NASA’s Gateway Program
The GAO has highlighted key aspects of NASA’s Gateway program, which aims to establish the first space station orbiting the moon. Scheduled for a dual launch in 2027, NASA is working to ensure the Gateway will be ready on time. This includes updating a cost and schedule analysis to assess the feasibility of the launch date. However, the program faces significant challenges, such as the excessive mass of the components. If not reduced, this could prevent them from reaching the intended lunar orbit. The GAO recommends that NASA document and communicate its plans to address this mass issue to help ensure the program meets its launch timeline. For more details, see the full report: “Artemis Programs: NASA Should Document and Communicate Plans to Address Gateway’s Mass Risk.”
